What to do in a road accident

Here’s what you need to do if you were in a road accident. First things first, you need to try your best to stay calm and no matter what do not admit liability – even if the accident was your fault (purely because if you’re in shock you’re most likely to say yes to anything). Once you’re ready, exchange the following information: Names Addresses Phone numbers (try to obtain landline numbers as preference) Insurance company details Vehicle information such as: Make Model Colour Registration Number Should the driver refuse to give you any of the above information, call the police immediately and give them the make, model and registration of the vehicle. Witnesses are always a bonus, therefore if there are any witnesses (one is good, but the more the better), simply ask them if it’s alright to note down their information and make a note of the following: Names Addresses Telephone numbers Make a note of the date and time of the accident, the exact location and how the accident happened. If possible take pictures (using your smartphone, mobile phone or a camera) of both vehicles, road markings and signs.
